PCI Compliance

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements developed by MasterCard, VISA, and other leading credit card companies and banks. These requirements were created to ensure that all companies that process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment which protects that information, and therefore reduces losses caused by hackers and credit card frauds. The standards are administered and managed by PCI DSS, an independent third party.

So what is SecurTek doing to ensure PCI Compliance?
•  Removing all credit cards from our systems.
•  Erasing all credit card numbers from paperwork.
•  Implementing new processes to ensure that SecurTek does not have any credit card information on file at any time.

SecurTek takes the protection of our customers’ information very seriously and has been working to ensure we comply with the standards set by this organization. While we will continue to accept credit cards for payment, we will no longer be processing those payments from our internal customer billing system. We will be using the services of an approved credit card payment agency that has met or exceeded all the standards under PCI DSS. The only change this means for customers is that if you would like to pay for your SecurTek services via credit card, you will have to call into our Customer Care Centre to provide your card information. You can rest assured that your information will always be secure and protected.

Door-to-door Sales

As spring turns to summer and the weather gets warmer, you may find individuals knocking on your door to sell security systems. Door-to-door sales can be a great way to reach out to the community and provide useful security tips and advice, but this past year, many security companies chose to take part in door knocking in an overly aggressive manner to persuade customers to sign a contract immediately. Here are some tips to assist you if this happens:

Know with whom you are doing business
•  Ask the sales person for their photo identification.
•  Is the service or product the company is offering available from your existing security provider?

Be wary of high-pressure sales tactics
•  Try not to feel pressured into buying something. Be sure to get the name of the company and sales person with whom you’re dealing with.

Read the contract carefully
•  Always make sure you get a written contract that outlines all the details of the transaction.
•  Understand the "Buyers Right to Cancel" clause on all contracts – by law you have 10 days after the contract is signed to cancel the agreement without penalty.
•  Be sure to understand all the terms, such as whether you will own the equipment, if your monthly fees will ever be raised, and what technical support is included.

When the power goes out, will the monitored smoke detectors still work on my wired system?

If the power goes out, your system will still continue to operate as it is powered by your panel and its back-up battery. The back-up battery will temporarily power your system until the power to your house, business or cottage can be restored. Your smoke detectors will still work, and will continue to be monitored by SecurTek.
